Jewish children who spend their summers embraced by values and friendships of Jewish camp are shaped with these experiences. They make lifelong friendships, form a commitment to Jewish community, and create unforgettable memories. A 2011 study by the Foundation for Jewish Camp, based on data from 26 demographic studies including the 2000-01 National Jewish Population Survey, found that camp alumni -- when compared to Jews of similar family, educational and denominational backgrounds -- show higher levels of Jewish engagement in everything from ritual observance to Jewish charitable giving to marrying within the faith.

In addition to the Jewish aspects of camp, those who attend camp also gain essential life skills, confidence and social acumen. This helps to develop the Jewish youth of today into our community leaders of tomorrow.

In other words, Jewish camp is important.

With membership costs, tuition and program fees that reach into the many thousands each year, many Jewish families in the area don’t earn enough money to participate fully in the organized Jewish community. J Camp is the only full-time, nine-week Jewish camp in the area.  Reducing financial barriers is critical to maintaining enrollment, which in the long-term maintains a robust Jewish community. Providing camp scholarships to families in need, helps ensure a community that is vibrant and accessible to all.
