For those who work full-time, high-quality after-school care is essential.
Additionally, as our Jewish community continues to assimilate and become immersed in the public and secular private school system After-School plays an even greater role in helping these students and their parents to make Jewish friends, to learn about and stay connected to the community.
The After-School Program at The J combines the best of all worlds for children – flexible and fun activities, educational enrichment, homework support, nutritious kosher snacks, supportive staff and an opportunity to take advantage of J classes and facilities.
The J offers a wide range of educational and recreational activity options. Recreational activities include arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor sports, imaginative play and games – all presented through a Jewish lens. There are organized group activities, small group activities, and time for free play daily. A quiet homework space always is available, where JCC staff assists children as needed. Transportation is available from public schools through 10/10 Taxi.
Research shows that children and youth build important social, civic and academic skills during non-school hours – skills that advance the adult thinking capacities critical to today’s workforce, such as initiative, reflection and teamwork. In addition, a study in 2007 showed that after-school programs on average had positive effects on attitudes toward school, social behavior, school grades and reduced problem behaviors from aggression.
